Hints

Using annotations, you can:



encourage viewers to subscribe to the channel and like it;
promote other videos and playlists related to the topic of the current video;
advertise your social media accounts and websites to redirect traffic.
Annotations are useful for everyone. Including channels that promote some goods and services by posting sales videos. After all, the key goal of such platforms is to attract potential clients and buyers.



Ways to add annotations to videos


Method 1: Add a Subscribe button using the End Screens button.

Once you've uploaded a video to your channel, you'll need to go to YouTube's creative studio using the "Edit Video" button underneath the uploaded video.
In the right column, find the “Editor” item and click on it.
In the list that opens, you can see the items "End screens" and "Hints".
By clicking on the item you are interested in, for example, on "End screens", you can see a pop-up menu with the items "Video", "Playlist", "Subscribe", "Channel" and "Link". You need to select the item you are interested in, for example "Subscribe", and click on it.
The end screen setup menu will open. To insert the "Subscribe" button, you just need to write the time of the video when the button will be shown, and use the cursor to select the button location on the screen. Please note: to save the changes, you need to add at least one more element to the screensaver. For example, add a button with a video. To do this, you need to click on the "+ element" and select "Video".
Next, the annotation settings menu will open, and you will need to select one of three options for which video to promote: "Newest", "Most relevant" or "Selected video". For the selected video, you will need to select either your video from your channel or a video from another channel.
After selecting the desired video, you need to use the cursor to select the location of the button on the screen.
After adding all the necessary elements, you need to click the "Save" button.
Method 2. Add a link to a channel, video or third-party resource using the "Hints" button.

The beginning of the method is the same as in the case of the "Subscribe" button. You need to go to the creative studio, to the "Editor" item in the video settings for which you want to embed a hint.
Next, you need to click on the “Hints” item, and in the pop-up menu with the items “Video”, “Playlist”, “Channel” or “Link”, select the item you are interested in, for example “Video”, and click on it.
The pop-up window will show all videos from the channel, in the video on which the hint appears, you need to select one video. Or, if you need to insert a video from another channel into the hint, you need to type the name of the video you are interested in in the "Find videos from other channels" column and select it.
After selecting the video, you can see a menu with settings for showing the hint. You need to select the time of the video when the hint will be shown, and also, if necessary, change the name of the hint, add a message and teaser text. After doing this, you need to click on "Save".
This instruction will also work for adding a link to a channel, playlist, or third-party site to the tooltips.

How to use annotations in the form of screensavers and tips correctly
Usually, to increase the effectiveness of tips and screensavers, it is enough to simply insert them at the right moment in the video, and then they will really interest the viewer. At the same time, you need to consider the opposite effect: annotations will definitely not work as they should if they were added at the wrong moment in the video, for example, when at the moment of the pop-up tip, the author in the video is talking about something other than what is advertised in the tip.

And to enhance the effect of this tool, it would be a good idea to voice a call to action and draw viewers' attention to the annotation by pointing to the corner of the tooltip. This will significantly increase the effectiveness of the annotation and the engagement of viewers.
